Foundations of Land Code

Through our Land Code SFN will ratify the Framework Agreement and resume the governance of our reserve lands.

Where it began

The Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management is an historic, First Nation developed and led, government-to-government agreement signed on February 12, 1996 between the original 13 First Nations signatories, and the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

Closer to Self-Government

Economic Development

Land code enhances self-determination and and integrates traditional values into modern practices.

BENEFITS

More Control

First Nations gain full control over land use, development, and management, facilitating quicker and cost-effective transactions.

Removes administrative hurdles, allowing faster and more efficient business transactions and direct dealings with external entities.

Legal Authority

The land code holds the same authority as the Indian Act in court, approved by First Nations members.
